Sanitation & Recycling
The City of Collins contracts with an outside waste management company for solid waste collection and recycling. Everyone within the city limits is required to have garbage collection every Wednesday.
*The City of Collins has implemented "Curb Side Recycling". There will be a tote, same RED color as our garbage, only a bit smaller in size that will be picked up twice a month...the 2nd and the 4th Fridays of the month.
Please refer to the calendar on the CALENDAR OF EVENTS section under the COMMUNITY TAB to see when pickup dates are scheduled.
If there appears to be abuse, you will be removed from the pickup route and will have to find other means of disposing of your recycle items.
If you are needing assistance on what is a recyclable item and what is not...please refer to the below website "RECYLE OFTEN - RECYCLE MORE".
If assistance is needed or you have items too large to be bagged please call City Hall and advise the city clerk there will be an additonal pick-up fee assessed and added to your next water bill.
**From National Council on Aging (NCOA) Adviser
Many people value recycling the right way so that less ends up in landfills. However, disposing of medical supplies and equipment as well as expired or unused medications requires caution, and many are unsure how to do so. In an effort to help, NCOA Adviser created this guide, How to Manage Unused Medical Supplies, that addresses how to handle these meds and supplies without letting them go to waste, including:
- Participating in drug take back programs in-person or over the mail
- Donating or returning major equipment like wheelchairs and mobility aids
- Organizations that take donations of supplies like gloves and masks
